How to get laundry done with little kids.

Anyone else struggle sometimes to get laundry done???? I have 7 kids, 4 of which are boys. I know a thing or two about being super busy and overwhelmed. There are always dirty clothes on the floor, and constant spills needing rags to clean them up not to mention living on a farm with animals! Towels are getting used during bath time, and hand towels are constantly wet. Whatever gets in your way, be it work, busy schedules, kids activities, or sometimes just plain overwhelm, Here are my strategies.

Pick a day.

This Is my preferred method, although not the one I usually end up doing. I pick one day of the week to wash and dry all the laundry. I don’t worry about getting things folded and put away, I just wash them. The next day I will go ahead and get things folded and put away.

The thing that helped me the most with laundry came from a suggestion my husband made. We have our older 3 children put their own clothes away. He made the point, the kids do not keep their clothes folded as they put them away and suggested that I not fold them. I did not like this idea at first, I felt like it was my responsibility to fold everyone’s clothes, but after thinking it through, I figured my husband had a point and I didn’t need to fold everything. So I have stopped folding the children’s and my husband’s clothes. I fold my own, the babies, and the towels. This has saved me a lot of time. I put the clothes in the appropriate baskets and the kids take them to their room and put them away. Our oldest folds his clothes and as the others get older, we will have them fold theirs as well. This makes one of my tasks as a mom a bit simpler and quicker leaving more time to put somewhere else.

Do a little each day.

This is another method that I have used as well. I usually only use this if I haven’t gotten laundry done in almost 2 weeks or we had a lot of clothes changed from playing outside.

Pick a day, and decide which category of laundry you want to take care of that day. Do that for the next day and so on and so forth. For instance,

Towels on Monday

Kids clothes Tuesday

Finish kids clothes plus babies on Wednesday

My husband and mine on Thursday

and really dirty clothes on Friday.

I will wash, fold, and put away clothes each day.

I always try to get laundry done each week, sometimes it doesn’t always happen and that is OK. Things can’t always go perfectly. I have a lot of work to do with the kids, homeschooling, trying to keep a head of dishes and making food, feeding and caring for animals, and gardens. I can often find myself overwhelmed and that makes it very hard for me to get anything done. If I have a plan, it gives me some focus and I find I am able to get more things done.

As a mom, a wife, and someone with a genetic risk of health complications that have taken the lives of many family members, I try and replace everything in my home with natural alternatives. This is the laundry detergent I use and love the ingredient label for! This is my review of using it>
