Fruits you can grow in Zone 5

I garden in zone 5. However, just an hour drive to the north and you hit zone 4. What is the difference? Zone 5 means we can hit temperatures of close to -20 degrees in the winter. This is air temperature not wind chill. We regularly hit -18 in the winters so I try to plant plants rated for zone 4.
