This recipe is from my mom. She was an incredible baker and cook. This was the main roll recipe I remember my mom making when growing up. This was then and is still my absolute favorite dinner roll recipe!

Ingredients:

For oatmeal:

2 cups water

1 cup oats

Rest of the bread:

2 TBSP butter

1 TBSP yeast

1/3 cup warm water

1/3 cup brown suger

1 TBSP white suger

1 1/2 tsp salt

4 3/4-5 1/4 cup flour

Directions:

Place oats and water into a pot and bring to a boil.

Boil for 1 minutes

Remove from heat and add butter.

Let it cool.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Dissolve yeast in water then add oatmeal, sugers, salt, and 4 cups of flour to a mixer.

Mix ingredients

Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time till a soft dough forms. Dough should not be sticky.

Knead for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place in a greased pan and let rise for 1 hour.

Push the dough down and form into 18 balls.

Let rise another 45 min.

Bake for 20-25 minutes.

NOTES:

Double this recipe and it will make 3 loaves of bread. Increase the baking time to 35-45 min. There should be a nice hollow sound when tapping on the bottom of the bread or an internal temperature of between 190-210 degrees when finished.
