Does non-toxic laundry detergent really work?

Let me be the first to say, I have never been terribly good at laundry. I don’t mind stains on the kids play clothes, or my everyday wear so I don’t try very hard to get them removed. Laundry done, is better for me in this current state of life than every stain gone from my husbands greasy work clothes or the kids outdoor play wear.

The laundry detergent I use is from Mama Suds. I LOVE Mama Suds!! She is a mom who specifically went out and found the cleanest ingredients she could to make soap and cleaners for her family. This is so important to me, as I try to live as naturally clean a life as I can for both myself and my husband and kids. Ingredients matter, and this Mom, taking her time to find the best ingredients she could for her own family gives me a peace of mind about using her products. This is her ABOUT PAGE>

So does non-toxic natural laundry detergent work? I would say, Yes! This works wonderfully for towels, and everyday wear. Mama Suds does have a Stain Bar. It is a piece of soap that you use to pre-treat stains. I personally prefer to dissolve it in distilled water and use it on the stains as a liquid. Or you can dilute the laundry detergent with a little water. I pre-treat the stains with that and throw it in to wash as usual! It gets most of the stain out, some stains are very persistent and need to be treated and washed a couple times. I make sure to check the stained garments before I put them in the dryer. If they need another round, I will pre-treat the stain again, and wash with the next load. It may not work as well as commercial detergents, but getting rid of the toxic ingredients is more important to me than a perfectly stain free shirt. What about REALLY DIRT clothes? I am talking, the jeans that my husband spilled oil and diesel on. The shirts he laid under a car to fix it in. I do not use Mama Suds for the really dirty clothes. I do use a conventional laundry detergent for these loads because I wash them 2-4 times and don’t want to use my good natural detergent up before my budget allows for another bottle. In an ideal world, I would use this laundry soap for them too, but this isn’t an ideal world unfortunately.

Overall, I really like knowing the majority of the clothes my family wears is washed in a non-toxic detergent and I have been pleasantly surprised with how well it has done for me and my family. It is a sigh if relief to know, I can source a natural product and don’t have to try and squeeze making my own into the already, overfull days. There are other products such as an oxygen powder that I am going to try someday, but that day is not today. Check out Mama Suds HERE> This is an affiliate link.
