July– This is another month that isn’t usually too busy in comparison to other months. Green beans are being harvested every few days, possibly some melons and the first few tomatoes. More herbs are being harvested and dried, our bush cherries are starting to ripen and some gooseberries as well. Garlic is ready to pull this month too!

Still plenty of eggs, and milk coming in each day. The baby birds are getting feathers and the pigs are eating away preparing for butcher in the fall. We also like to let our bulls in with our cows at this point in the hopes for April calves next year, and hopefully put the boars back with the sows for fall litters of piglets.

August– This is one of the biggest months of the year for us. ALOT of produce is ripe. Tomatoes and peppers are coming into the kitchen in force, the pears and early apple varieties are ripening, the bitter cherries are ripe, grapes are hanging on the vines, and raspberries are ripening too. Lots of zucchini are growing, and some potato varieties are ready to dig. Sweet corn is plump and juicy, hopefully some melons are ripe, and onions are large and ready to go. Our peaches are getting ready to harvest off the trees and I am hopeful to get a few nectarines this year too!

The animals are still around doing their animal thing, and this will be my first year with chickens to butcher a long side my ducks which is very exciting!

September– Another big month for us. Almost everything else is ready to harvest this month. From popcorn, to flint corn, potatoes to apples. Early pumpkins are ready, the beans are coming in with both green beans and dried beans, blackberries and raspberries, and this will be my first year with sweet potatoes!

I am fully in the throws of preserving what is coming in from the garden, and often take a break from homeschooling just so we can get it harvested and processed while keeping some semblance of sanity… kinda.
